NAMSS Puts Enrollment Delays, Staffing and Automation on the Provider-Enrollment Agenda
10/05/2026
What changed
On September 22, 2026, NAMSS held a member forum titled “What's Top of Mind in Provider Enrollment?” The forum was designed around issues identified by NAMSS members through a pre-event survey. The discussion focused on challenges including payer enrollment delays, provider onboarding timelines, staffing and workload management, technology and automation, and delegated credentialing requirements. Participants were also invited to share processes, tools and strategies used in their organizations.
This was not a new payer policy or a regulatory announcement. It was a member-driven discussion about the operational issues provider-enrollment professionals are currently dealing with. NAMSS describes the forum as an opportunity for members involved in provider enrollment to share challenges and practical approaches with peers.
Why it matters for your practice
This update is different from the payer-specific changes above. It does not tell a practice to complete a particular form by a particular date.
Its value is that it identifies the issues currently being discussed by professionals responsible for provider enrollment: delays, onboarding timelines, workload, technology, automation and delegated credentialing. These are operational issues that sit behind every application.
A payer can process an application only after it has been submitted correctly. A credentialing team can follow up only if someone owns the follow-up. A provider can complete onboarding only if the practice knows what remains outstanding. Technology can make those steps easier to track, but only if the workflow itself is clearly defined.
What to do — and what not to do
Use these topics as an internal review of your own enrollment workflow.
Ask:
- Where are applications currently delayed?
- Who owns the next action?
- How are onboarding timelines tracked?
- Which tasks still depend entirely on manual follow-up?
- Where are delegated responsibilities documented?
- Can the team identify the status of an application without reconstructing its history?
Do not assume every enrollment delay is a payer problem. The complete process includes application preparation, submission, payer processing, provider responses, internal follow-up and final confirmation.
The current provider-enrollment discussion is increasingly about the process around the application: ownership, timelines, workload, technology and visibility into what happens next.
