Evernorth / Cigna Removes Prior Authorization Requirement for TMS Services
Evernorth Behavioral Health (a subsidiary of The Cigna Group) has eliminated prior authorization (PA) requirements for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) services for contracted providers, effective March 6, 2026. The change applies to patients in Evernorth and Cigna Healthcare plans across 12 states, covering more than 18 million lives.
What This Means for Contracted Providers
In-network TMS providers no longer need to submit PA requests for covered services. This significantly reduces administrative burden and allows faster scheduling and treatment.
Important Limitations
- Applies only to in-network providers. Out-of-network providers still require PA.
- Services before March 6, 2026, remain subject to prior rules.
- Network execution requests and care outside the member’s state of residency may still require authorization.
Credentialing Tip
This policy gives a clear advantage to contracted providers. If you are out-of-network or in the credentialing process (which can take 90–180 days), complete enrollment promptly to benefit from the streamlined process.
