Carelon Reminds Providers to Maintain Accurate Directory Data for Compliance and Patient Access
04/06/2026
Keep Your Provider Data Current with Carelon
Staying connected with your patients starts with accurate, up-to-date provider information — and Carelon is reminding all network providers of the importance of maintaining current data in their directory. Here's what CHPP providers need to know.
Why It Matters
When your directory profile reflects your true availability, practice areas, and services, members can more easily find and connect with the right provider. Carelon's provider directory serves as a primary referral resource for members and directly supports accuracy audits required by state and federal entities, clients, and accreditation bodies. Outdated or incomplete information creates barriers to care — keeping it current helps ensure every member has a seamless, equitable experience.
What to Keep Updated
At every location you serve, make sure your profile accurately reflects:
- Whether you offer in-person and/or telehealth services
- Physical accessibility features at your practice
- Hearing accommodations available
- Languages spoken fluently by you and your staff
- Your ability to work with translators
Carelon also encourages providers to voluntarily share demographic information — including culture, race, ethnicity, and religion — as these details are optional but can be meaningful to members seeking a provider they feel a personal connection with. Many members from diverse backgrounds rely on this information to identify their best-fit provider.
Compliance and Directory Audits
Providers should regularly review their directory data under all credentialed plans via Carelon's provider directory portal. In support of compliance requirements, you may receive:
- Email invitations to participate in directory accuracy audits
- Phone outreach for larger groups or select providers
- Multiple audit requests per year if you hold telehealth services or multi-state licensure
- Additional requests from other departments verifying compliance with access and availability standards
Your participation in these audits is essential to maintaining Carelon's trust, compliance, and accreditation standards.
90-Day Attestation Requirement
Under the No Surprises Act (Consolidated Appropriations Act), all providers are required to review and attest to their directory data every 90 days. To simplify this process:
- CAQH users should submit updates and attestations directly through CAQH
- Non-CAQH users can make updates via the Carelon Behavioral Health ProviderConnect portal
- A new comprehensive provider digital front door portal is coming soon, designed to streamline demographic and location-specific updates across payers
Member Rights and Responsibilities
As a reminder, all providers are expected to support the Rights and Responsibilities of Carelon Behavioral Health members. Member Rights and Responsibilities Statements are available for download on Carelon's website in English, Spanish, and additional languages upon request.
