Carelon Provider Enrollment Alert: New Required Fields in Availity

07/06/2026

New Provider Enrollment Fields Now Required for Group Practices in Availity (Carelon Behavioral Health)

What Happened

Carelon Behavioral Health has rolled out updates to the provider enrollment application in Availity, specifically for existing in-network group practices that are adding new providers to their group. The update introduces a new status field — "Ready to See Members" — that gives groups real-time visibility into where each new provider stands in the credentialing and setup process. The status will show either Complete (the provider is fully credentialed with an executed agreement) or Pending (required steps are still in progress). Alongside this visibility feature, several new data fields have been added to the application itself, making the submission more detailed than before.

What Providers Should Watch For

The new required fields span three categories. Practice Details now includes office hours with daily schedules, after-hours availability, and holiday appointment scheduling. Patient Population fields cover age limitations, the breakdown of age categories treated, gender identity served, and racial and cultural populations served. Accessibility and Language Services fields ask about non-English languages spoken by office staff, availability of translation services, and interpreter experience.

These fields are not optional add-ons — they directly determine how the provider appears in Carelon's member-facing directory. Incomplete or inaccurate information affects member access to care and can create directory compliance issues during audits.

What to Do

Before submitting a new provider application under your group in Availity, gather the relevant information for all new fields in advance. Incomplete submissions will stall in Pending status, delaying the provider's ability to see Carelon members. Assign a staff member to monitor new provider statuses in Availity and follow up on anything that remains in Pending longer than expected.

If you are not yet using Availity for enrollment, this is the time to get set up — Carelon now requires all new individual, group, and provider-joining-a-group enrollments to go through Availity.
