Anthem Blue Cross and Cedars-Sinai Extend Contract Through 2030
Anthem Blue Cross and Cedars-Sinai announced a multiyear contract extension ensuring continued in-network access for more than 230,000 Anthem members through January 1, 2030. The agreement was scheduled to expire at the end of 2025.
The extension covers Anthem plans at Cedars-Sinai locations currently participating with the health insurer, including access to Cedars-Sinai hospitals, specialists, facilities, and affiliated providers. Both organizations stated the contract would ensure continued access to care at Cedars-Sinai and its affiliates in the years ahead.
"Anthem Blue Cross has a long history of collaboration with Cedars-Sinai to improve healthcare quality and affordability," said Beth Andersen, president of Anthem Blue Cross Commercial Health Plans in California. "We are grateful for Cedars-Sinai's continued partnership and shared commitment to long-term stability and improved health outcomes for our members."
The two organizations have maintained a relationship spanning more than 40 years. This includes collaboration through Vivity Health, an HMO health plan developed in partnership with Anthem a decade ago. Vivity Health was designed to provide members access to healthcare providers and physicians across Los Angeles and Orange counties.
The partnership has supported quality-based reimbursement models, clinical decision-making processes, and review procedures for patients receiving care at Cedars-Sinai. Cedars-Sinai serves as a founding member of Vivity Health.
"We appreciate the important partnership we have developed and strengthened with Anthem over many decades, and we look forward to continuing the relationship well into the future," said Dr. Peter Slavin, President and CEO of Cedars-Sinai Health System.
The contract extension comes amid changes at state and federal levels affecting healthcare availability and access. Both organizations emphasized the agreement would provide stability for members and ensure access to care during a period of market uncertainty.
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center has received the highest distinction—5 stars—from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for quality and safety of care for eight consecutive years, placing the institution among the highest-rated hospitals in the country. For ten consecutive years, the medical center has been named to the Honor Roll in U.S. News & World Report's "Best Hospitals" rankings, tying for first place in California and Los Angeles in 2025.
The extended contract maintains continuity for Anthem members who have established care relationships with Cedars-Sinai providers and ensures access to one of the nation's top academic medical centers for the next five years.
